Hulya Ermis, Ph.D., NCC, LSC, LPC

Dr. Hulya Ermis is a nationally certified counselor, licensed school counselor, and licensed professional counselor. Dr. Ermis has extensive experience in working with children experiencing issues associated with anger management, social skills, bullying, academic struggles, self-esteem, adjustment, and adaptive coping skills in school settings. In addition, she specializes in areas of attachment injuries, anxiety, depressive symptoms, trauma, and oppositional defiance. Dr. Ermis is trained in Cognitive- Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) models as well as various forms of play therapy frameworks, including Child-Centered Play Therapy, Experiential Play Therapy, Sandplay Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Play Therapy. She blends a variety of forms of play and expressive arts-based creative techniques with other evidence based interventions to address the needs of her clients. Dr. Ermis cherishes diversity and working with families from all backgrounds, emphasizing forming genuine therapeutic relationships with children and their parents to promote healing, growth, and positive change. Dr. Ermis earned her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Counselor Education at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2018. She is a current faculty member in Counselor Education, teaching Master’s level courses in counseling at Northeastern Illinois University. She was the recipient of North Central Counselor Education and Supervision Research Award in 2020 and Illinois Counseling Association Publication Award in 2022.
